Our Story

The journey to establishing Vernon Voltage and Gas Fitting Ltd. began in 2012, when Tom and Cathie first met in Calgary. While they spent their early years building a life and a family, marrying in 2018 and raising their two children, Sawyer and Thea, they always shared a singular goal: to put down roots in the Okanagan. In 2020, they turned that dream into reality, moving to Vernon and purchasing their first home shortly after.

Tom’s professional evolution is a testament to his dedication to mastery in the trades. Initially trained in Audio Engineering and New Media Production, Tom transitioned into the trades to build a stable future for his family. He earned his Red Seal Journeyman Electrician certification through SAIT before further elevating his expertise in British Columbia. Today, Tom is a Master Electrician (Class B FSR) and a ticketed Class B Gas Fitter. His pursuit of technical excellence continues as he currently apprentices in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic trade.

With over five years of experience working alongside a Master Finishing Carpenter in addition to his extensive HVAC and electrical background, Tom offers a rare, multi-disciplinary approach to home services. This diverse skill set which spans electrical, heating, cooling, gas fitting, and general contracting culminated in the launch of Vernon Voltage and Gas Fitting Ltd. in September 2024. His mission is to provide the community with a high standard of versatile, reliable trade work.

Cathie is equally committed to serving the Vernon community through her work in education and childcare. With a background as an Early Childhood Educator and a recent graduate of the Education Assistant program at Okanagan College, she has spent her career supporting the growth and development of local youth. Her dedication to education remains a cornerstone of the family’s professional identity.

When they aren’t managing the business or pursuing further education, the family is fully immersed in the Okanagan lifestyle. From soccer and gymnastics with Sawyer and Thea to paddleboarding on the lake and hiking local trails, they believe in staying active and involved. The household is kept lively by their three spoiled cats: Mochi, Boba, and Bao, who even enjoy a custom-built, ventilated “cat bathroom” designed by Tom!

Now settled in South Vernon, Tom and Cathie are proud to be more than just business owners; they are neighbors dedicated to helping the community thrive. Whether through professional trade services or local volunteerism, they are grateful to call the Okanagan home.
